Teardown on PC
PC is where Teardown started and where it's best, with the Workshop and the first multiplayer release.
Teardown on PC is the original version. It launched in early access in 2020, went 1.0 on 21 April 2022, and PC is still the platform with the Steam Workshop, the full Lua modding API and the earliest patches. It costs $29.99 on Steam.
Download Teardown on Steam
Teardown is sold on Steam, the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store. There is no mobile version.
System requirements
Teardown is unusual: it's a software-rendered voxel engine that leans on the CPU and on memory bandwidth more than on the graphics card. The listed requirements are:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 7, 64-bit | Windows 10, 64-bit |
| CPU | Quad-core, 2.5 GHz | Quad-core, 3 GHz or faster |
| GPU | 3 GB VRAM, OpenGL 4.3 | 6 GB VRAM |
| RAM | 4 GB | 8 GB |
| Storage | 4 GB | 4 GB |
In practice, a fast single-core clock matters most. A Ryzen 5 or Core i5 from the last few generations with any dedicated GPU runs it at 60 fps at 1080p. Integrated graphics can run it at low settings on small maps. Large Workshop maps and multiplayer sessions with lots of destruction are where high-end CPUs pull ahead.
Is there a free Teardown download?
No official free version. There was a demo in 2020 that is no longer distributed. The "teardown free download" and "teardown unblocked" results are repacks of old builds; they won't run multiplayer and won't connect to the Workshop. If $29.99 is too much, wait for a sale, where it drops to about $15, or play it through PlayStation Plus Extra on a PS5.
Mods on PC
- Open the Steam Workshop for Teardown and subscribe to what you want.
- In game, Mods → enable the ones you subscribed to.
- Local mods go in
Documents\Teardown\mods. Each mod folder needs an info.txt.
The API is Lua. The official docs at teardowngame.com list every function, and Tuxedo Labs ships the mod tooling with the game. Mods flagged as multiplayer-compatible work in online sessions when the host has them enabled.
Multiplayer on PC
Free since 12 March 2026 for everyone who owns the game. Up to 12 players, co-op sandbox, deathmatch and capture the flag, with server browser and friend invites. Console cross-play isn't supported.
Linux, Mac and Steam Deck
- No native Linux build, but it runs under Proton and is Steam Deck Verified. Expect 30–40 fps on Deck at default settings.
- No Mac version. CrossOver works for some people; unsupported.
