A fully destructible voxel world, a heist campaign, and since 2026, multiplayer. The most polished game in this genre by a wide margin.

What Teardown is

Teardown is a first-person game where every wall, floor, vehicle and object is made of voxels and every one of them can be broken. You play the owner of a failing demolition company taking on jobs that turn into heists: plan a route through a property, knock down whatever is in the way, grab the targets, and get out before the alarm timer runs out. The planning is the puzzle; the demolition is the fun.

Outside the campaign there is a sandbox mode with all the tools and no timer, a creative mode, and a Steam Workshop with thousands of maps, vehicles and tool mods. Tuxedo Labs, a small Swedish studio, built the engine from scratch in C++ for this one game. It is not related to GoreBox or the ragdoll sandboxes beyond the word "sandbox"; there are no ragdoll humans and no gore.

Price and editions

• Standard: $29.99. Base game with the campaign, sandbox and creative modes.
• Deluxe: base game plus the Time Campers and Folkrace DLC.
• Ultimate: everything including future DLC. A fourth DLC is planned for 2026.

Teardown goes on sale to around $15 several times a year on all three stores. It is on PlayStation Plus Extra, which is the cheapest way to try it if you subscribe. It is not on Xbox Game Pass.

Teardown is sold on Steam, the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store. There is no mobile version.

Multiplayer

For years the developer said networked voxel destruction was infeasible. Then on 12 March 2026 a free multiplayer update landed on Steam with 12-player co-op, deathmatch and capture the flag, and the game set a new concurrent player record within days. The console version of that update arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 15 September 2026, free for existing owners, alongside Mod Pack 6. There is no cross-platform progression and no cross-play between PC and console at launch.

Mods

On PC, mods come from the Steam Workshop: maps, vehicles, tools, total conversions, and multiplayer-compatible packs. Subscribe, then enable in the in-game Mods menu. The scripting API is Lua and well documented at the official site, so the quality of Workshop content is high.

Consoles can't use the Workshop. Instead Tuxedo Labs curates free Mod Packs, downloadable as free DLC from the PlayStation and Xbox stores, each with a selection of Workshop mods. Six packs so far.

Teardown Steam version also has console commands and a debug menu for spawning and cheats in sandbox mode; they're listed in the Lua API docs.

Where it doesn't exist

Teardown is not on mobile, Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Mac or VR. The mobile page explains what the "teardown apk" listings are and the games that come closest on a phone. The PC page has requirements and the free-download question.
