Play and the App Store are official. Uptodown mirrors the same file PlayDucky publishes and keeps a version archive. SandboxAPK hosts nothing.

The app is listed as Melon Sandbox on both stores; Melon Playground is the original name and the one everyone still uses. Same package, same game. The hub explains the rename.

Requirements

Android7.0 or newer.
RAM2 GB runs it; 4 GB for big Workshop maps and Chips scripts.
Storage150 MB download, 400 MB and up with Workshop content.
Play servicesNeeded for account sync, coins and the marketplace. The sandbox works without them.

How to install the APK

  1. Download the .apk or .xapk from Uptodown.
  2. Open it and allow installs from that source for this one install.
  3. For .xapk, install through the Uptodown app or extract the .apk inside with a file manager.
  4. Open the game, sign in, and your coins and Workshop items follow your account.
  5. Sideloaded installs don't update through Play; grab the next version from the mirror when it ships. The latest version page tracks it.

Older versions

VersionWhenWhy people want it
37.1.1Aug 2026Current; anniversary content.
36.0–36.4June–July 2026Cloth physics and Chips; some mods target these.
33.5Nov 2025Holiday content; pre-cloth ragdoll behaviour some players prefer.
2023 builds13.x–15.xThe versions from the Play Store return and the rename.

Uptodown's version list has every build. Older versions can't reach the current Workshop and lose account sync.

Mod APKs: what they cost you

  • No Workshop. The repackaged builds can't connect, so the 90,000 mods are gone.
  • They break on every update, and Melon updates every three to four weeks.
  • Coins from a mod APK don't exist on PlayDucky's servers, so they buy nothing.
  • Most of the adware complaints in Play reviews trace to these files. The mods page has the longer version.

Common questions

Is the Melon Playground APK free?

Yes, with ads and a coin shop. The no-ads pass is a one-time purchase.

Is there a Melon Playground APK for iOS?

No APK, but the real game is on the App Store; see the iOS page.

What's the latest Melon Playground APK version?

37.1.1 as of August 2026.

Can I install it on PC?

In an emulator, or use the browser version. The PC page covers both.

Can you embalm a dead melon?

Yes. It stops the body decaying; it doesn't bring it back.

Does embalming work on other livings?

On most ragdoll livings, yes. Zombies and androids react differently; androids don't bleed to begin with.

Is there an embalming achievement?

Yes, one of the discovery achievements. Use the syringe once and it unlocks.

Are Melon Playground maps free?

Most Workshop maps are. Marketplace maps cost coins; see the coins page.

Why is a map missing props?

It was built for an older version. Look for an updated upload or a fork.

Can I play Workshop maps in the browser version?

Some. The web build lags the app by a version or two and carries fewer Workshop items; the PC page explains.

What does embalming do in Melon Playground?

It keeps a melon from bleeding out and falling apart. Here's the full behaviour, and when it's the right syringe.

Embalming in Melon Playground is a syringe. Inject a melon with it and the melon stops bleeding out and stops decaying, so the body stays intact no matter what you do to it afterwards. It doesn't heal, it doesn't revive, and it doesn't make the melon tougher; it preserves. That's the answer to the question most people arrive here with, and the rest of the section is the detail.

What embalming does

  • Stops blood loss. A melon that would bleed out from a wound keeps its blood level.
  • Stops decay. Bodies normally deteriorate over time; an embalmed one doesn't.
  • Keeps limbs attached under normal handling. Explosions and blades still remove them.
  • Counts toward the syringe and "embalm a melon" achievements. The achievements page lists them.

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't restore health. That's the healing syringe.
  • It doesn't stop movement or freeze. That's the freezing syringe, which stiffens the ragdoll.
  • It doesn't protect against damage. Hard skin does that; the hub explains hard skin.

When to use it

Before an experiment you want to run more than once on the same melon: crash tests, rope setups, anything where bleeding would end it early. Embalm first, then do the thing. It's also the syringe for display builds where you want a body to stay as it is.

Where it is

Spawn menu → Syringes (or Medical, depending on version) → Embalming. Drag it onto the melon. Same on iOS, Android and the browser version.

Melon Playground maps

The stock worlds, the four that arrived with 36.0, and how Workshop maps work on a phone.

Melon Playground maps are called worlds in the game. Every map is a flat 2D space with a floor, a background and props, and the differences between them are size, surfaces (water, ice, platforms) and what's pre-placed. The stock set is small; the Workshop is where the thousands of custom maps live. This section lists the stock worlds as of 37.1.1, explains the four that came with 36.0, and walks through installing and making Workshop maps.

Stock worlds

WorldWhat it is
DefaultThe flat plain most videos use. Floor, sky, nothing else.
Water worldsPools and sea levels for liquids, boats and drowning physics.
Ice and snowLow-friction floors; vehicles slide, melons slip.
Platform and arena layoutsRaised surfaces, pits and ramps for traps and courses.
The CrawlerAdded in 36.0. A vertical layout built for the cloth physics and wind introduced in the same update.
FlippyAdded in 36.0. A rotating world; the floor isn't fixed.
BlocksAdded in 36.0. Modular blocks for building courses in-map.
Table TennisAdded in 36.0. A themed small arena, mostly used for ball physics.

The exact list and names vary a little by version and platform; the in-game world selector on your build is the authority. Source for the 36.0 additions: PlayDucky's 36.0 release notes.

Installing Workshop maps

  1. Main menu → Workshop → Maps.
  2. Browse or search. Sort by popular; the top results have been rebuilt for 36.0 and later.
  3. Check the description for the target version. Maps from before 36.0 can have props that no longer exist.
  4. Tap Get. The map appears in the world selector under a Workshop tab.

Same steps on iOS and Android; the browser version has a smaller selection. Maps are tied to your account and follow it between devices. The mods page covers the Workshop in general.

Popular map types

  • Cities and houses: multi-room layouts for role-play scenes and NPC behaviour tests.
  • Obstacle courses: built on Blocks, usually with timers from Chips scripts.
  • Recreations: places from other games, with matching character packs (the FNAF pizzeria is the most common).
  • Machines: maps that are one big contraption, made possible by Chips in 36.0.

Making your own map

Workshop → Create → Map. Pick a base world, place props, platforms and liquids, set the spawn point, save. Maps stay private until you upload them. On a phone the editor is workable; on a tablet or the PC emulator it's comfortable. Scripted behaviour (doors, timers, triggers) comes from attaching Chips; the mods page explains them.
